Bradford, OH - Two nights of Independent Racing Series action face "The Sniper" this coming weekend. Friday night, August 3 rd , Chinn Motorsports will make their first ever trip to Elkins Motor Speedway for the RH Armstrong Memorial . The following evening, August 4 th, Wayne will make his inaugural visit to Maryland as the team heads to the legendary Hagerstown Speedway for the 27th Annual Shorty Bowers Bull Durham Championship . Both races will pay $5,000 to the winner and will be contested under the IRS banner.
Last week Wayne Chinn made his first career World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at the Lawrenceburg Speedway. "The Sniper" made an exciting last lap pass in the consolation event past WoO Late Model Series regular Rick Eckert to grab the final transfer spot in the forty lap main event. The Erwin Dealership/Sugar Creek Packaging/AWP of Ohio/Dodge/Rocket would run as high as tenth against the nations best drivers before settling in for a fifteenth place finish. Wayne was also awarded $500 from National Interstate for being the highest placing Ohio driver of the night.
Friday night the team would head to Williamsburg , Ohio to the Moler Raceway Park for their $3,000 to win "Ike" Moler Memorial. After a heavy shower hit the area the race was postponed. Chinn Motorsports then decided to hit the road and head for Virginia , the site of the next nights action. After a grueling nine hour drive the team made it to Winchester Speedway for the first ever Independent Racing Series event held at the track. The night would start out on a high note as "The Sniper" laid down a very quick lap, placing him fifth out of the forty-six car field. This was especially impressive considering the young Bradford , Ohio driver had never laid eyes on the track before hot laps. However, Wayne 's streak of bad luck in the IRS series would continue as contact from over anxious competitors would puncture three tires over the course of the night causing a disappointing eighteenth place finish.
"The Sniper" Wayne Chinn continues to dominate the Independent Racing Series Rookie of the year chase over Chris Wilson and Robbie Scott. He also sits third in the seasonal championship, thirteen points behind leaders "The Badlands Bandit" Rick Aukland, and "Flyin" Ryan Markham.
A fireworks show will follow the IRS Late Model feature to honor the RH Armstrong Memorial event at Elkins Speedway Friday night. Adult General Admission is $15.00 with Pit Passes $35.00. Hot Laps are slated for 7:15 p.m. The Semi-Lates, Open Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks and 4 Cylinders will also be on the racing card.
