Bradford, OH - "The Sniper" Wayne Chinn and the Chinn Motorsports Erwin Dealership/Sugar Creek Packaging/AWP of Ohio/Dodge/Rocket faced a double header this past weekend with the 13th Annual Dream 100 at Eldora Speedway and Challenger Speedway's IRS series Mega Blitz highlighting the schedule.
146 of the nation’s best race cars drivers converged to Rossburg, Ohio for one of Dirt Late Model's crown jewel events, The Dream 100, paying the winner $100,000 to win. Wayne would kick off the festivities by qualifying 84th fastest in the massive field. This would lock him into one of Saturday's six qualifying heats. Things would start out good for the Bradford, Ohio native who lives just twenty miles from the half mile speed plant. Wayne would make some moves and progress a few spots at the stat of his heat race, only to make contact with another car on coming out of turn four, damaging the left front. Wayne would fight handling problems but still hold onto a 11th place finish in the twenty car field. Despite the night ending early the Chinn Motorsports team left Eldora Speedway very optimistic as they turned some of their fastest laps of the year at Tony Stewart's famed half mile oval before suffering the suspension issues.
With a Independent Racing Series event scheduled the next day in Indiana, PA the team had no time to rest of the grueling three days of qualifying and racing at Eldora Speedway. Leaving at 2am Sunday morning, the Chinn Motorsports hauler drove through the night and pulled into Challenger Speedway around 10am for the first annual Summerfest Mega Blitz. After spending the day making changes and preparing the Sugar Creek packaging #1 for the evening’s events "The Sniper" drew a second row starting spot for his qualifying race. Under Challenger Speedway rule the top three in each heat race would redraw for their position in the 50 lap main event. Wayne would ride his Erwin Dealership Rocket to a second place finish and draw the 8th place start position for the Mega Blitz. Showing why he is quickly becoming one of the nations most talked about regional drivers, "The Sniper" sliced, diced and shot his way through the field finishing a hard fought 3rd place on the very racy Challenger Speedway surface.
Due to a disagreement with Challenger Speedway staff over the nights racing format, the IRS series only awarded show up points for the event. Had this race followed the usual points structure "The Sniper" would currently hold a comfortable lead in both the seasonal point’s standings, but also the rookie of the year chase.
With the one night only amend points structure Wayne Chinn still lurks one spot and one point behind "The Badlands Bandit" Rick Aukland for the inaugural Independent Racing Series championship.
The Chinn Motorsports Erwin Dealership/Sugar Creek Packaging/AWP of Ohio/Dodge/Rocket will be back in action once again this weekend with a second trip to the newly built Moler Raceway Park planned on Friday and a trip to BDS Promotions West Virgina Bullring, Tyler County Speedway planned for Saturday night.
