Bradford, OH - “The Sniper” Wayne Chinn embarked on the Indiana Speed week tour this past weekend. Thursday night started off bad, as Wayne had been collected in an accident during his heat race on the first lap. During the accident, Wayne suffered an injury and lost feeling in his arm for over twenty minutes. In the consolation event the car was ill handling and Wayne decided to pull in instead of adding to the damage that had been previously received to the Erwin Dealership/AWP of Ohio/Rocket. It was a very disappointing night for Chinn Motorsports as they have had a great amount of success at Lawrenceburg Speedway.
Friday the team made their way to Bloomington Speedway. The team's morale was very high as Wayne had
previously competed on the track in a Midget, and ran very well. The qualifying heat race started with Wayne in the eighth position, he would advance to seventh position before the race ended, as the track was very heavy which produced little passing. As the night went on the track got better, passing was more conducive, and the Bradford, Ohio native would pass four cars in route to second place finish in the consolation event. This put “The Sniper” in the seventeenth position in the thirty lap event. About midway into the race, Chinn worked his way to the top ten and continued to get faster as the race progressed.
The Chinn Motorsports Rocket took off with Wayne exciting the crowd driving this mount to the extreme high side in all four turns. A yellow flag flew on the last lap, cutting down “The Sniper's” momentum. Wayne finished in fifth place and received the hard charger award for the night.
Brownstown Speedway would be the location of the third and final Indiana Speed week event. The night , much like the previous, started out with minimal passing in the heat races. After the sun had set, track officials made the decision to mist the track to provide a better racing surface for both fans and drivers. Wayne shot to the high side from the seventh position and later leading to a win in the consolation event. During the feature, “The Sniper” would again make the high side work. Wayne passed cars every lap and working his way to a hard earned fourth place finish from the seventeenth starting position. For the second night in a row, Wayne picked up the hard charger award from the Northern All Star Late Model Series.
Due to his consistant runs on Friday and Saturday night, Wayne finished 3rd in the final Indiana Speed week point standings.
This coming weekend, “The Sniper” Wayne Chinn will set
his sight on another point championship, as the Independent Racing Series invades the state of Indiana for their Hoosier Challenge. After one event, Wayne currently sits third place in seasonal points behind Mike Blazano and George Lee. Wayne is also leading the IRS rookie of the year points chase.
